Congratulations to our longtime volunteer Tony Martin on receiving a Gold Seal Award from the Onondaga County Legislature in recognizing his many years of dedicated service to our community. Tony has been instrumental in the growth of our mission over the years and we consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to be among the numerous causes that he gives so selflessly to.

Today you would be turning 40.

You were an artist, a dancer, a singer and wise far beyond your years. Most of all, you were a beautiful light in this world, such a kind, compassionate, deeply loving child.

Halloween is one of the best times of year for many children. It is a time when they get to dress in costume and go out with family and friends to collect all the goodies their bucket will hold.

For young David Ingram Jr., this past Halloween hit much differently. On this day he heard the words that no child should have to hear: “You have cancer.”

Like many children do, especially those who are school-age, young David had appeared to be struggling with a persistent stomach bug. He was able to attend school, participate in Halloween festivities and even playing in his first hockey game! All the while being plagued with bouts of nausea and pain. Then the day came that it became so unbearable he was not even interested in eating. A trip to urgent care uncovered a mass which led him to Upstate Golisano Children`s Hospital where he received a diagnosis of Stage 3 Burkitts Lymphoma.

David spent the next serval months enduring aggressive treatment to treat the disease, much of which kept him inpatient at the hospital. This meant he was away from things he loved, such as his younger brother, friends, beloved golden retriever and hockey community. That very community however, along with local fire, EMT and police forces rallied with him and his family in addition to local businesses and nonprofit organizations such as ours.

On January 19 of this year, David rang the bell!

Today, David and his family are giving back to the organizations that helped carry them through one of life`s hardest journeys. Their gratitude is inspiring and we are truly honored to have been a small part of their story. To read more: paigesccf.org/stories/david

Some donations we receive hit a little different🎗️

What an honor it was for us to be among the fine list of local organizations to receive the proceeds of young David`s lemonade stand.

David rang the bell in January this year after a hard fought battle and is now finding joy in giving back to organizations that were there for he and his family.

We are incredibly grateful for this budding philanthropist and his family for joining us in our mission.

Megan Palestro (she/her) is thrilled to join Paige`s Childhood Cancer Fund as Development Assistant. She earned her bachelor`s degree in Communications, with concentrations in Digital Marketing and Creative Arts, from Siena University in 2024 and is currently pursuing her master`s degree at Marist University.

Megan began her professional career in higher education where she gained valuable experience in communications and marketing. For the past four years, she has dedicated time to national volunteer strategy work for a national nonprofit organization rooted in cancer advocacy and fundraising, where she consistently excelled in leadership roles. She is excited to continue that work within her professional career.

Outside of work, Megan enjoys crafting, traveling and spending time exploring Central New York.

This position represents another strategic capacity-building investment aligned with our long-term growth strategy and commitment to expanding our impact.
