To say that the last few months have been a roller coaster would be a huge understatement.
In March of 2024, following his 5th birthday, Joshua Tomassi was diagnosed with T-cell ALL. His parents had known something was “off”; with an unusual lack of energy, swollen eyes, and enlarged lymph nodes. His treatment started right away, and a long hospital stay followed.
Due to his body’s response to treatment, Joshua required mechanical ventilation and dialysis for a period of time. He subsequently received physical and occupational therapy to help him gain the strength needed to resume his typical activities.
Although he has been admitted to the hospital several times following his initial diagnosis, he has stayed positive and thoroughly enjoyed all of the DVD options and snacks on 11G at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Now in maintenance phase, the chemotherapy has eased up and Joshua is feeling much better. He enjoys playing video games with his older brother Jacob, doing arts and crafts, hanging with his family, and going out to dinner; especially at Red Robin. Although he has a long road ahead of him, Joshua continues to stay motivated knowing he will beat cancer soon.
The support we have received from our family and friends has meant the world to us. All of the visits to the hospital, gifts for the boys, gift cards and coffee deliveries have truly put smiles on our faces during the darkest of days. We are so very lucky to have such a strong support system!
